Job Description

We are a scale-up business, looking for an experienced UX designer to continue the development of our learning platform from its Minimum Viable Product stage. We are looking for someone comfortable working as a sole designer, owning the design process, from research and discovery to final designs.

This is a fast-paced environment, and essentially will be operating like a start-up.

Working in a small product team, the UX Designer’s responsibilities will include gathering user requirements, and user research data to inform design decisions and prototype ideas to validate through user testing. In addition, we would expect you to define the design patterns, and build with accessibility and inclusivity in mind.

To be successful in this role, you should have experience with Figma and Azure, or similar, and should have a portfolio of professional design projects that includes work with SaaS, and web/mobile applications.

You will contribute to the wider UX community in Scotland and the UK.

  • Plan and facilitate research activities.
  • Analyse and synthesise research into artefacts including but not limited to user journeys, and user flows.
  • Feed in the product roadmap development and help prioritise.
  • Present research findings to the team and stakeholders.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops with teams and stakeholders.
  • Balance research insights and business requirements.
  • Produce wireframes, interactive prototypes, and final UI designs.
  • Develop and maintain the design system.
  • Communicate design progress and review what has been implemented.
  • Manage stakeholders.
  •  Support external consultancy projects with your UX expertise.
  • Support cross-teams initiatives: communication, lunch and learn, brand guidelines

  • Able to lead product development with inputs from discovery right through final designs.
  • Experience of working closely with developers to understand technical constraints, limitations, and feasibility
  • Able to make decisions independently and guide the team and stakeholders in the right direction.
  • Confident in dealing with stakeholders, justifying your thoughts with research insights and visualised ideas.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WCAG, A11y, and accessibility standards.
  • Advocate for human-centred practices
  • Ability to focus on outcomes rather than solutions only.
  • Proficient in Figma and Azure, or similar.
