Position: Planning Officer

About the Role:
As a Planning Officer, you will play a pivotal role in processing Development Management matters within our forward-thinking team. From providing pre-application advice to managing major and minor planning applications, your expertise will drive positive outcomes while navigating negotiations with developers and stakeholders. You'll ensure statutory obligations are met and communicated effectively, optimizing resources for the best community outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle a diverse caseload, from pre-application advice to appeals, ensuring adherence to planning policies and relevant legislation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver customer-focused solutions, adding value to our services and upholding the Council's Core Values.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development (PO1).
  • Represent the Council at Public Inquiries and Informal Hearings, advocating for community interests (PO1).

Requirements:
Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in drafting planning reports and communicating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with planning legislation and the ability to adapt to new technology for improved service delivery.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of urban planning issues and the plan-led system.
  • Knowledge of best practices in planning and promoting equal opportunities.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in complex development management, including major development projects.
  • Familiarity with negotiating legal agreements related to planning applications.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification in Town Planning or equivalent, supporting membership of the RTPI.
  • Availability for occasional evening meetings or work outside normal hours.
